Great character development, fascinating world. I couldn't help but be drawn into the book, and then it was over too fast. I am now very impatiently awaiting the next book in the series.Product details

Dragon Boy Hilda Inn Volume 2 Cyn Bagley Doris Mace 9781542749633 Books Reviews
This is solid, basic story-telling!
Hilda is a retired mercenary, who runs a flophouse (better than that, actually) where others who lived to retirement hang out, and get their daily ration of 100-year stew, bread, and ale, and have place to tell lies during the daytime, and sleep at night. She has a sister who runs a brothel, and a brother who is a mage. You'll find THAT part of the story in "Hilda's Inn for Retired Heroes."
A gentle caution if you are expecting a duplicate of Edith Freisner's work, you won't find it here. This isn't written for laughs; Hilda aches, the old wounds pull at her, and everything is played straight.
After the evil Bad Guy burns her Inn down, she heads off to the capitol city to tell the King what's happening. Tagging along is Davi, a young lad who is the Dragon Boy of the title. They encounter a town of dwarfs, an evil dragon, a mostly-good dragon, are stalked by a zombie, and find a magic road that traps unwary travelers.
Meanwhile, Hilda's brother Michael the mage is discovering the joys of being in the hands of the physical terrorists, I mean therapists. Because he was a Good Guy in the first book, he has been stripped of his powers as a Fire Mage, crippled, and convinced it's all over for him. Much to his discomfort, he is forced to exercise his crippled leg, and is offered some faint hope that some of his magic may return.
To anybody who has had to go through physical rehab, he's a kindred spirit.in love, and spends part of his time thinking he's not good enough for her, and part of his time wondering if she's good enough for him. That's what happens when you convince yourself you are a cripple. (Impaired is one thing, realistically. Being a cripple is a state of mind.)
And we learn about all sorts of bonding and messed up families. And get to stand by as an ogre eats...somebody.
It's all very straightforward, and fortunately, lends itself to future volumes. I found it to be a very fast read, but then again, I tend to inhale good writing. You might be able to make it last a while. Lets all hope the glow lasts until the next volume is ready!
Good book! Now waiting for the third one.
Great character development, fascinating world. I couldn't help but be drawn into the book, and then it was over too fast. I am now very impatiently awaiting the next book in the series.
