Akira's plans are simple write wedding invitations, bake Christmas cookies, and eat red meat. (The last surprises her, too.) But when Rose, the ghost who haunts her house, asks for a favor, Akira can't say no. Although she's faced danger before, even death, a toddler who doesn't like peanut-butter-and-jelly might be her worst nightmare.

For fans of the Tassamara series, this short story (15,000 words) takes place after the events of A Gift of Thought but before the epilogue, and before the events of A Gift of Time. It takes place at Christmas, but doesn’t actually have anything to do with the holiday. One reader says it “will make you smile!”

The Spirits of Christmas A Tassamara Short Story edition by Sarah Wynde Literature Fiction eBooks

I read "The Spirits of Christmas" after reading both "A Gift of Ghosts" and "A Gift of Thought" so I don't know if it could be read as a stand-alone book. I think that you would have to have read "A Gift of Ghosts" to have the necessary background to enjoy the story. If you do have the background, then I'm sure that you would find "The Spirits of Christmas" to be very enjoyable as I did. The interactions of all the characters was great fun to read, especially the toddler who could see ghosts but not hear them and Akira, the main protagonist, who could both see and hear ghosts but who has never interacted with a child.

It didn't bother me, but some people might be disappointed by the fact that there is very little that is actually about the Christmas holiday except for the time of year that the story takes place. The characters themselves, both living and ghosts (and Rose, who might not be a ghost at all), have well-defined personalities with crisp, vibrant imagery that really brings the story to life. Sarah Wynde writes very well and there was only one missing word and no typos or spelling mistakes so the story flowed easily with no interruptions. Her style is both easy and pleasurable to read.

This is a lovely little addition to the Tassamara series so if you are familiar with the background, then I'm sure that you will enjoy this book. This book is free until Dec. 28th so hurry and download it. Happy reading!

The Spirits of Christmas A Tassamara Short Story edition by Sarah Wynde Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Liked that she brings many open story lines from the first book to life in this short stort. Would have enjoyed a longer story line but thoroughly enjoyed it.
I love this author and since reading A Gift Of Ghosts, I find myself buying and reading anything with her name on it. Sarah Wynde's books are written without the obscenities and the gore that LESS TALENTED writers depend on.
If you like tales of ghosts, you will definitely be hooked after reading just one of her books!
I highly recommend The Spirits of Christmas!
I like how in this book Akira had a sweet short taste of what is like to be a mother before she even has her own child. Toby is a wonderful though toddler who is strong will and funny at the same time. For some reason I love how the author wrote toby's lines it was funny how I sometimes had to read them twice because of the way they sound while i was pronuciating them made me feel like a child again lol... I wish the story could've been a bit longer tho. Cant wait what good stories she would come up with next i truly recomend reading this book after reading the first 2 in the series so you could get more of an understanding on this book
"The Spirits of Christmas" is a delightful addition to the Tassamara books -- just the right length to read Christmas morning while the turkey's in the oven and it's too early to mash the potatoes! Although it takes place during the holiday season, it's not really a "Christmassy" book, and it would make an equally good beach read. You'll enjoy it more if you first read at least one of the other Tassamara books to get to know Tassamara's beguiling characters. "The Gift of Ghosts" was the author's first book, and they're all witty, fast-paced, and funny with plenty of romance.
I would say that first this really isn't about Christmas so much as it just so happens to be set during that time of the year. It is also part of a series so I think it would give the reader more background info and make more sense if read in order or the series. Start with Gift of Ghosts and then read Gift of Thoughts before reading this one and you will be drawn into the characters and story even more with this short story. I loved the character development and you really do get the feeling you are there along side them experiencing their life. I look forward to reading more from this author.
No, its not really a Christmas story, although it takes place that time of year.
But it still gave me the warm fuzzies.

I've already read Sarah Wynde's 'The Gift of Ghosts' and 'The Gift of Thought'. This is a short story with some of those books' characters (and ghosts). You should probably read at least 'The Gift of Ghosts' before reading this story. I'm not sure you can appreciate it fully if you don't have the background.

I gave the two books that I'd already read 4-Star ratings, as I thought that they were both very good and well written.

This short story was more in the 'Really Good' range for me--like 4-1/2 stars. There most likely was something about this one that could have been better, but darn if I can remember; I was too engrossed in it to care. I literally flew through this story without a break, it was such a easy and satisfying read.

Do yourself a favor and give this series a chance. The ghosts are not frightening, the romances are not that graphic, and yet they have plots and characters that should keep you avidly reading until (sigh!) the books end. AND, I might add--they don't end with the dreaded "Cliff Hanger".
Akira and Zane are preparing for their wedding as well as getting used to the idea of their first child coming. Akira is experiencing strange cravings, for her, of steak etc. but, is also scared silly of taking care of a child. After all her own mother died when she was an infant so she had no role model to follow.

Zane is busy trying to ease her fears when Rose, their house ghost, runs in and begs Akira for a favor. It seems the 'mean ghost' inhabiting the house Akira refused to even view, is threatening the woman and child in the house if they won't leave.

Akira who loves Rose, the teenager that died of suicide in the 50's, agrees to try and convince the woman to move. The woman, of course, thinks she is nuts and tells Akira to leave. Her son, however, sees the 'mean lady' and so...

Then there is an emergency...Akira and Zane rush to aid the woman and child.

To tell you more would probably be move words than this short tale has. I will tell you that it answers questions about Rose that I had been developing in my mind. Great tale and leaves you thinking.
